Let me show you how to paint! Pick a class and let's get started!
I learned how to paint with Acrylics when Decorative Painting was popular. Decorative Painting or Folk Art is usually done on functional items that you would use in home decor or on wearable items. We often say "If it doesn't move, we paint on it !"
Learn to paint on everything - from canvas to paper, tinware, glass, plastic, fabric and wood.
The exciting thing about decorative painting is that you
do NOT have to have drawing skills to learn how to paint!!
Next beginner classes start in March. Click HERE for details
We offer Acrylic classes in 4 different stages
1) Weekly Beginner Acrylic Lessons - Starting in March. 4 weeks - 3 projects.
All paints, surfaces and brushes supplied. Try it! You'll LOVE it!!!
2) Beginner/Intermediate Projects - sign up for the specific projects you like from the ones offered each session. These are usually one or two session classes. All paint supplied. Buy a surface from us or use your own (order ahead) BYOB - Bring your own brushes!!! (specific types of brushes needed are available in studio for purchase as needed)
3) Open Studio Classes - Ongoing weekly classes where you work on your own painting choices with help available. These are great classes for people who know how to paint but want to improve their skills, or find a group of fellow artists to paint with. An ongoing weekly session provides inspiration and motivation to keep you learning and growing! Supplies available for purchase in studio - pay a small palette fee for paints and mediums you might not be able to obtain easily.
Paint with Acrylics, Oils (non-toxic, odourless mediums only), and Watercolour or try some Batik, Coloured Pencil or Scratchart classes. Debbie has lots of pattern packets and design books or you can paint from your own photo reference material.
4) Advanced Class Projects - offered from time to time. These are longer more challenging projects to work on. These classes are either weekend workshops or multi week classes - 4 to 6 or more depending on the subject matter. Register for the specific subject matter you are interested in. You are welcome to use your own references.
Learn to paint with Watercolours
Some people feel this is the hardest medium to master but it doesn't take long to learn to paint beautifully soft watercolours once you know a few tricks!
I LOVE the softly blended style and also the contemporary impressionistic effect you can get with watercolour paintings. I love to PLAY with watercolours!
To learn how much fun Watercolours can be, join our Beginner step-by-step scheduled classes.
Painting with Oil paints so fun! There are so many ways to apply paint! Brushes, palette knives, lots of texture or very smooth applications. It's not hard to paint landscapes, still life and florals. It's often easier than Acrylics because oils paints blend so easily!
Some oil paint colours can take up to 6 months to completely dry - so they are probably not the best if you have small children at home who might accidentally get hold of your canvas or paints - that's why you want to take a class outside of your home LOL!
(AND you will have to watch your cat! They love to walk in fresh oil paint....must smell like catnip! )
You can achieve some stunning effects with oil paints that are a little harder to duplicate using acrylics
If you'd love to try some oil painting please register for our scheduled classes.
